INFORMATION FOR ANYBODY PLANNING TO ADOPT A CAT FROM KINGSDOWN CAT SANCTUARY
When a cat comes into the care of Kingsdown Cat Sanctuary it is initially given a full veterinary check, blood tested, microchipped, treated for fleas and worms and spayed/neutered (if it has not been done already)
If there are any medical problems then these are dealt with immediately
No healthy cat is put to sleep. We only do so if the animal is terminal ill and if the vet advises this is the kindest course to take.
During a cat’s stay with us it will require food, litter, a heated pen and love and attention from the carers
Quite often cats are traumatized by finding themselves in a rescue situation and this can result in an unexpected illness developing shortly after their arrival with us. This of course then requires further veterinary care and medication.
As you will understand, there is a great deal of expense involved in keeping up the work that we do with needy cats and we are totally dependent on fund raising, and donations made by members of the public, who usually give generously when taking a cat or kitten from us. All moneys go directly to caring for the cats. ALL work is on a voluntary basis - no-one is paid!
We always like to deliver the cat to its new home. Preference for homing is given to people living within 30 miles of Deal
We do not as a rule home cats/kittens where there are children under the age of 4 .
Cats must have access to the house at all times. ie. a cat flap must be fitted so that at any time the cat wants to come in it can and especially if it is frightened when outside, it can seek refuge in it’s own house.
The donation you make when you receive your new cat helps us to look after another cat which will be waiting to come into the sanctuary. There are always cats waiting to come in.
It costs approximately £700 per week to run the sanctuary.
When your cat/kitten is delivered please remember how much it has cost us to care for it before you were kind enough to give it a loving home.
A donation is requested to help with the upkeep of the sanctuary. Please remember that you will be adopting a cat that has had all the necessary veterinary attention and is 100% fit and healthy when it leaves us.
Kittens: You will also be asked to pay in advance for the spaying or neutering and given a receipt which you take to our vets when the cat is 5 -6 months old and has to have the operation. You will also receive a voucher with 20% off the initial vaccination and a reduced rate for the microchipping
Note: some people question our donation request, but please bear in mind that the following is what would be charged at the vets (depending on which vets are visited) Blood Test £35-£45, Spay £50-£80, Neutering £32-£45, Vaccinations £50-£65, one flea and worm treatment £6-£8, microchipping £20-£34
Wwe are not in rescue work to make money. Your donation helps the sanctuary to continue to be able to take care of the cats and kittens that need our help.
